23E Studios in Conjunction with The Museum of Viral Memory and Fringe Exhibitions Presents Disembody
is the latest work from the artists at 23E Studios
For this project, we have assembled a crew of approximately thirty people, from San Francisco to Chicago to Tokyo, to create a feature length film (working title: Disembody) documenting the creation of a single work of contemporary Fine Art. This art work is a theater being installed in L.A.'s Chinatown gallery district at Fringe Exhibitions
. The theater is being built to show Disembody.
For this work we relocated to Los Angeles; founded a movie studio (); produced a 50 minute film; built a theater to show the film; and are currently sponsoring a one week run of the film (extended to two weeks by popular demand. After its limited engagement, the film will be submitted to film festivals and distributors in hopes of getting distribution and a DVD release.
The project is a site-specific installation, involving architects, web designers, graphic designers, contractors, costume designers, theater staff, a perfumer, and a complete video production center.
The show opened on July 12, 2008. For one week Fringe was open to the public while we constructed the theater, lobby, and arcade. At this time we also shot and edited the film.
On July 19th, Disembody premiered to a sold out house. The theater is now showing the film on a daily schedule until August 2nd, 2008.
From August 3rd to August 11th Fringe will be open to the public while we de-install the theater. Our schedule will be unpredictable, so call ahead.
23E Studios is also producing or co-producing films by artists involved in the Disembody project, such as our editor Skye Thorstenson, whose film S/Z will be available through 23E.
We currently have a number of other films in pre-production, including Vile Dead, Dead Shot, and Jersey Girls.
